In New Zealand we pay about $50 (?) to go to the GP and $5 for prescriptions. Only if we earn over a certain amount AND are over 18. I believe there are some co-pays for specialists? Otherwise it's included in our taxes, which are lower than the U.S.

The Mastermind sketch was mind bending! Unfortunately a ot of the references were a) very much of their time and b) very British, and so a lot of the jokes will have been tricky to understand- although others were still funny out of time and context. The Two Ronnies were very clever and skilled performers. It was very noticeable that Harry Enfield (The Greengrocer in the Blackberry sketch) found it almost impossible to hold it together at times, whereas Ronnie Corbett just waited it out, and carried on. They didn't do imptrov- their sketches were always scripted and well rehearsed. Their showd typically included a number of sketches where wordplay was an important element, but also costumed song and dance numbers, usually with extensive backing singers/dancers, in which, at first glance, it would appear to be a traditional musical theatre number, but the lyrics were hilarious. There were slots in the show where they performed individually- Ronnie Corbett always did a long and rambling (but very funny) monlogue whilst sitting in a rocking chair - but also a serialised 'drama' within the show, with a new episode airing during each show, in which they played ridiculous characters. Ronnie Barker passed away in 2005, and Ronnie Corbett in 2016. They both had successful solo careers alongside their double act, and are both sorely missed.

Ronnie Barker used to write many of these and he clearly loved words. They worked hard on them and they were always very funny. Mispronunciation is great. Any of their programs are very funny they were a truly amazing couple of comedians. Watch all of them you will know what I mean. There is always time for a good laugh!

For another demonstration of the Two Ronnies excellent use of language, I recommend the Swedish Made Simple sketch. For other comedy that is more classic than recent, but typically British, I recommend looking up one of our greatest comics: Victoria Wood. She was a tour de force in her day.

Think about it Steve, if they make the shop scene appear old, there is more of a contrast with the actual subject matter using computer jargon. Having said that, we do still have greengrocer shops selling fruit and veg like that, maybe not with the person behind the counter wearing a brown overcoat and a tie though. The Mastermind sketch is their best, I think. So clever and funny that you even considered it could be improv. Must be good actors :)

A lot of the jokes in the Mastermind sketch only made sense if you lived in the UK at the time (which I did, being on the wrong side of sixty now). Each half-hour programme contained several of these wordplay sketches, plus a musical number with comedy songs filled with innuendo in which the Two Ronnies would often be dressed as women. Old-fashioned British humour at its best!

Ronnie Barker starred in a few TV series ... "Porridge" in which he plays a prisoner called Fletcher, where he gets up to all kinds of mischief to get one up on the officers. he also did a follow up called "Going Straight" which was when he was released from Prison. "Open All Hours" was another series where he played a tight shopkeeper who has a stutter and employs his nephew Grandville (played by David Jason) . these are all comedy gold and loved by everyone in the UK.

Another is "a sense of rhythm" set in the old compartment coaches on British Railways ruclips.net/video/y26GLRAdNI0/видео.htmlsi=sWpnvrbSFiQfsGK6. Also, some of Ronnie Corbett's monologues are outstanding. The one where a guy is shipwrecked on a deserted island is a classic.

We loved Morecombe and Wise, especially the breakfast sketch. Ghe biggest celebrities at the time begged to be in the shows. Dave Allen was another great as well as Russ Abbott. The two RONNIES were absolutely brilliant together.Ronnie Barker wrote most of the sketches under a false name ,but the funniest sketch I found was the optician sketch, both short sighted.Sadly both have passed.Todays comics are not nearly as funny as comedy duo's.Peter Kay is probably the funniest visual comic around at the moment. his Bolton accent gives his comedy a more humourous take on his background..I found his funerals discription funny.

I’ve performed at the Minack Theatre a few times. They have shows from May to September performed by excellent amateur theatre groups. It’s an amazing place to visit or see a show, built in the early part of the 20th century by one lady and her gardener! When you walk from the car park to the top of the theatre where the open air seating is it has the most jaw dropping view! And performing there is so special especially when it’s full -it holds 850 people! It overlooks Porthcurno beach (which is so pretty and sandy - the one you said you liked ) and backstage it has an 80 foot drop! The dressing rooms are on the side of the cliff! If you see a show in the afternoon you often see sharks and dolphins too! Well worth the visit just to look around.

The blackberry sketch was recorded in 2010 , five years after Ronnie Barker died. I love that Harry Enfield couldn't keep a straight face... while Ronnie Corbett (at 80) was the ultimate straight-man professional. I've never seen the Mastermind sketch before.. I have tears running down my face I was laughing so much! Oh, and you should definitely look at Morecombe and Wise... I recommend the sketch with Andre Previn...

Hi Steve and Lyndsey. You are starting to appreciate the comic genius of The Two Ronnies. Ronnie Barker wrote a lot of their material, and he was an amazing wordsmith. Two other sketches that come to mind, which I have previously suggested, are Crossed Lines which has similar wordplay to the Mastermind sketch, and Racing Duck. It doesn't matter how many times I see them they still crack me up.

Wikipedia: Bethlem Royal Hospital, also known as St. Mary Bethlehem, Bethlehem Hospital and Bedlam, is a psychiatric hospital in Bromley, London. The word "bedlam", meaning uproar and confusion, is derived from the hospital's nickname. Although the hospital became a modern psychiatric facility, historically it was representative of the worst excesses of asylums in the era of lunacy reform. Lunatic is a term referring to a person who is seen as mentally ill, dangerous, foolish,[1][2] or crazy-conditions once attributed to "lunacy". The word derives from lunaticus meaning "of the moon" or "moonstruck".[3][4][5]
